Teacher Overview
The aim of this lesson plan is to teach children the different classifications of living things. In this case we are focusing on animals and referring to grouping them according to whether or not they possess a back bone such as vertebrates and invertebrates. Their observable features for example Mammals, Reptiles, Birds and Amphibians and also classification through the type of food which animals eat such as Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores. The way in which we will be teaching the children about these concepts is through technology. We are aware that the children may not be very confident on the computer so we are using these lessons to help them gain understanding on technology and the variety of ways in which it can be used. We will be introducing the children to concepts of technology such as:
Keep in mind that this is a lot for the children to learn so we recommend you allow an adequate amount of time to ensure better understanding. We also suggest an individual follow up activity to see how much each individual child understands and get an overall idea of what you as a teacher need to reinforce in the classroom.
